Álvaro Valdés Maqueda was born in 1999 in Noreña, Asturias (Spain). He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in 2021 and his Master’s degree in Chemistry and Sustainable Development in 2022, both from the University of Oviedo. For his Master thesis, he worked under the supervision of Prof. Carlos Valdés and Prof. Félix Rodríguez on the implementation of cross-coupling reactions based on N-sulfonylhydrazones for their application in the synthesis of DNA-encoded libraries. In 2022, he joined the PhD program in Synthesis and Chemical Reactivity at the University of Oviedo under the supervision of Prof. Carlos Valdés, with an FPI fellowship from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. His doctoral research focuses on the development of new methodologies involving N-sulfonylhydrazones, in particular their use in photochemical cross-coupling reactions with boronic acids, enabling geminal carboborylation and three-component difunctionalizations. He is currently conducting a four-month research stay in Prof. Noël’s group at the University of Amsterdam, where he will work on the arylation of trifluoromethyl-heteroatom anions using TT salts.
