Jannik Thaens was born and raised in a small village near Hamburg, Germany. After finishing school, he travelled to New Zealand for one year, before starting to study chemistry in Rostock. Jannik did his bachelors thesis in the field of synthetic organic chemistry. After completing his Bachelors degree Jannik switched to the M. Sc chemistry course in Rostock. He is currently doing a research internship in the group of Prof. Timothy Noël at the University of Amsterdam.
