
Marek Pontvuijst was born in 2003 in Amsterdam (Netherlands) and grew up in Almere, a neighbouring city to the east of Amsterdam. He finished his BSc. degree in Chemistry at the University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (Joint Degree). Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Joost Reek at the HomKat research group of HIMS, he finished his BSc. thesis titled: “Design of Paramagnetic Relaxation Enhanced M12L24 cages for in-vivo assembly-state pharmacokinetics using 19F-MRI” as part of the Cat4CanCenter collaboration between the University of Amsterdam, University of Leiden, Netherlands Cancer Institute (Amsterdam), and Oncode Institute (Utrecht). He has since started his Chemistry MSc. program at the same universities following the Molecular Sciences track. From November 2025 until February 2026, he will be working in the Noël Research Group for a 3-month research rotation.
