Carlota Girón Elola

Carlota Girón Elola was born in 1999 in Donostia–San Sebastián, Spain. She obtained her BSc degree in Chemistry with honors from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in 2022. During her undergraduate studies, she moved to Germany for a one-year internship at Bayer CropScience (Monheim am Rhein), where she worked under the supervision of Dr. Eike Kevin Heilmann on organic synthesis, conducting retrosynthetic analysis and developing synthetic protocols for the preparation of insecticide-derived metabolites. After returning to the University of the Basque Country, she carried out an eight-month research internship under the supervision of Prof. Enrique Gómez-Bengoa, where she developed new metal-catalyzed C–H functionalization reactions. She then pursued an MSc degree in Organic Chemistry at the same University (2022–2023), conducting her Master’s Thesis under the supervision of Dr. Arkaitz Correa. She is currently continuing her research in the same group as a PhD student focusing on the late-stage C–H functionalization of peptides. In June 2026, she joined the Noël Research Group (NRG) at the University of Amsterdam for a six-month PhD research visit.
