Sara Fernández-García was born in La Unión, a small town in Murcia (Spain). She obtained her B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Molecular Chemistry at the University of Murcia. Her research in both programs focused on the synthesis and reactivity of seven-membered paladacycles with different coupling reagents. During her Master’s studies, she had the opportunity to work with Dr. Francisco Juliá on the development of photocatalytic decarboxylation processes of aliphatic carboxylic acids using photocatalysts based on first-row transition metals. In 2021, she joined Francisco-Juliá’s research group as a PhD student. Her thesis focuses on the design of new methodologies to promote the photodecarboxylation of fluorinated carboxylic acids, using iron photocatalysis to carry out fluoroalkylation reactions. Currently, Sara is doing a research stay at the Noel Research Group, where she will be working on Electrophilic Fluorinations in flow from September to December 2024.
