Florian Schiel is a PhD student coming from the ICIQ in Tarragona, Spain. He obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. at the University of Vienna. His master thesis project was carried out at Boehringer Ingelheim RCV in Vienna, working on the development of a photoredox cross electrophile Csp2-Csp3 coupling method for the late-stage functionalization of drug-like molecules. He stayed at the same company another 2 years working in the medicinal chemistry department as lab scientist, until he joined the group of Prof. Melchiorre in October 2021 as a PhD student. His research work is focused on the discovery of novel organo- and biocatalyzed photochemical transformations. Currently, he is a visiting PhD student in NRG and is working on new fluorination methods in flow.
